This Prairie Village yard had good bones - a solid deck and patio setup with outdoor furniture and plenty of space. What it needed was something to pull the outdoor living area together and give the beds a finished look. That's exactly what we set out to do.

We lined the deck perimeter with large cobblestone boulders, running them clean along the edge where the deck meets the lawn. It's a simple idea that does a lot of heavy lifting. The stones create a clear boundary, they add texture, and they keep the lawn from creeping into the patio space. No edging strips, no plastic borders - just solid natural stone doing the work.

On the planting side, we put down fresh dark mulch through the existing tree and shrub beds, then added a row of hostas spaced evenly along the front edge. The mulch does more than look good - it holds moisture, cuts down on weeds, and gives newly planted shrubs a better environment to get established. The hostas will fill in over time and add a layer of ground-level interest beneath the existing evergreens.

The whole thing comes together as one cohesive look across the yard and patio. The cobblestone ties into the natural tone of the deck boards. The dark mulch makes the new green plantings pop. It's the kind of work that seems straightforward but takes a real eye for proportion and spacing to pull off right. Small details matter a lot when you're working this close to a finished outdoor living space.

We handle tree and shrub planting and mulch installation across the area - everything from single-bed refreshes to full yard overhauls. Getting the plant placement right and the mulch depth consistent is what separates a clean result from one that looks off after a few weeks.
